I started this thread just in case anyone was interested. There are a few skaters that I will be watching. I know it won't be the same
without our Dai-chan.

Ice Dance SD and Men's SP start today 10/24.

Tatsuki SP in Asahi broadcast https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KDApNdT8XM

Now J-media is using him to promote Hanyu. But sometimes it can get useful, like on this video where you can see 20yo Tatsuki and 15yo Hanyu shopping and sightseeing in 2010 Moscow where they both attended Cup of Russia (watch at 4:00)

Men - Short Program

Takahiko Kozuka

Takahito Mura
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNmPYd2Pggg&list=UUHxukVg_JFACjNBHeDwddww

I watched Men live yesterday evening (in Italy). Disappointing performances from Adam Rippon (quite a mess) and also Florent Amodio (popped last 3Lz) did technical mistakes, but at least he was good in PCS.

Sorry for Taka K, as his Tango is a good program and he can delivers it with fairly good expression, but he seems still facing technical issues. Sad

Taka Mura did his best. I had the chance to cheer for him at Lombardia Trophy in September (getting his autograph Very Happy ) and he improved since then.

Max Aaron.... last year he tried Dai's music (Mambo) with terrible results  - this year he has Dai's Mambo hair-style... and more or less same outfit of Kissing   Rolling Eyes  My dear Max, disguising like Dai doesn't help.... Laughing

Congrats to Mura for winning the Gold at SC. Great FS!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35aYjZzN8ls

I felt bad for Taka and Adam. Both are such good skaters but each have technical issues.

It will be interesting to see Hanyu's rendition of POTH.

Thank you Pattina for the video links!

Mura!!  Shocked affraid cheers cheers

Congratulations!!!
What a skate! And his reaction after he received the score - awwwww... So happy for him!

And so sad for the other Taka... Beautiful program, I think Lori is perfect for him.

Thanks Shyla for the thread and Pattina for the links!
Sorry for not posting, but you know...

SA was especially hard, with Nam sticking a knife into my heart with his La Strada, and Denis with his FS reminding me the two DT battle - btw one of a few programs I'm looking forward to see again.

Oh, Congratulations to Tatsuki for winning SA! He was magnificent! cheers

Thank you for starting this thread, Shyla.  I’ve been recording the competitions but haven’t been too interested in viewing them but I'm happy for Machida and Mura for winning Gold.

Thanks also to Pattina and Let’s Talk for the iinks.

Ilica:  Thank you for your post.  You expressed everything I was feeling regarding poor Nam skating to La Strada and seeing Denis which reminded me of the DT’s X2.  I felt so sad when I heard Nam’s music which is such a huge reminder of Dai.

I thought I would share this article from the Kelowna Daily Courier which is where Skate Canada was held.  It seems even the reporter must be missing Dai because he got a mention.  I don't know why but just seeing his name listed made me feel a bit better knowing that we aren't the only ones still thinking about him this season.  I was also pleased to see that Takahiko Kozuka received a nod from this reporter.  Despite minor mistakes I really enjoyed his program so I hope he stays healthy and does well this season.

Yesterday at COC Yuzu and Han collided in the warm up it was terrible. Here is a clip of
what happened and the aftermath.

Wishing both skaters a quick recovery.

Congrats to Max Kovatun of Russia for winning the Gold medal, Yuzu the Silver and
Ricky Dornbush the Bronze.

Thank you for the link, Shyla.  What a horrible accident but a brave and valiant effort by Yuzuru and Han for continuing to skate.  I hope they're both okay and will take the time they need to recuperate.  I enjoyed Han's program so I look forward to seeing him skate when he's healthy.

Wish both skaters quick recovery. Terrible incident, indeed.

Really happy to see Kanako on podium, although her FS was not so brilliant as Short.

I enjoyed both programs of Misha Ge, who made a great technical improvement, especially in landing 3A.

On this YT channel, you can find all programs with British Eurosport's commentary. Thanks to uploader.

Congratulations to Daisuke Murakami, Sergei Voronov and Takahito Mura for their medals at the NHK.

I watched the CBC FS version and Kurt Browning made this comment about Daisuke Murakami "If you squint just a little he's Daisuke Takahashi.  Same action of knees, body shape, musicality".  His co-commentator added "and hair cut".  I was happy to hear that they mentioned Dai.

Hi Dancergirl.

Murakami said that his SP and LP were a tribute to Dai-chan who is his
favorite skater.

Murakami used both program music from Dai's 2005-2006 season. Roxanne for the SP and
Rach 2 for his LP but he used a different movement of Rach 2. His costume color in the FS
was very similar to Dai's costume and of course the hair.

I tell you it was a bit weird for me seeing him skate to these programs but his
obvious adoration for Dai won me over.

You should go to youtube and watch Dai's programs from the 2005-2006 season to see the similarities.

Thanks for the info about Kurt!

Hi Shyla.  I hope you had a great holiday.  Thank you for the history lesson.  I was aware of the SP music being the same but not the FS.  I hope it wasn't too strange for you, seeing Daisuke M skating to the same music, as it was for me the first time I saw Nam skating to La Strada.  Apologies to Nam but the second competition I recorded I had to fast-forward through Nam's performance because I couldn't bear hearing that music again and not see Dai skating to it.

I'm glad to hear that his adoration won you over.  If it didn't, for others, here is a link to the NHK Men's Medal ceremony.  Seeing the tears in Daisuke M's eyes, during the national anthem, touched me.  How appropriate that he should win Gold, at this particular competition, skating to a lovely tribute to his idol. It was sweet to see the other 2 medallists touch him reassuringly at the end of the anthem.

I attended NHK live and it wasn't just weird to see neoDai but it was a torture! To see such similar bodylines, costume, hairstyle, movements, especially from the back he did look like the perfect Dai-clone! Naturally I had such a sad feeling missing Daisuke, my heart was tearing apart ready to cry. But the moment neoDai started Tango he won me over with his sincere devotion and admiration of the Master. His jumps are lower than Dai's, he is slower, but he did his best in musicality and expression which are not of the same league as real Dai's of course but they were good! There is something karmic in it. They got rid of Dai for the sake of another skater who keeps falling all over the place and Dai-clone won with best performances of the skater who barely had clean skates before. cheers

Let's talk I can just imagine how you felt seeing Murakami live and the emotions you felt.
Thank you for your thoughts.

I noticed that the arena did not look completely full. How was the attendance?
Seems to me it was not as well attended as in the past.

That's true. At first I thought some people would come up later by Men's start. But no, there was really a good number of empty seats and in all categories actually. Indeed it wasn't like that last year of before. The tickets were officially sold out. I am sure they were bought by ticket brokers who thought they would resell them as in the past. Last year all tickets for NHK I bought via them after I lost in lotteries and in general release sale. And it wasn't the first time when I used their "service". They obviously thought the game will go on but they were wrong. The ticket for Friday I won in the very first lottery and I attended Friday only. After Sotnikova withdrew I didn't bother to apply or care for tickets anymore.

Daisuke Murakami EX. They should invite him for XOI for collaboration with our Daisuke where they both wear masks and the same outfit to trick the audience who is who. I will win anyway but still it would be fun to watch bounce  You know I am kidding because neoDai will be preparing for JN. Wish him luck there and my cheer (I won't be attending though).

Thanks for the link to the exhibition, Let's Talk.  Another good job by Daisuke M.  What a great idea to have the 2 Daisuke's skate with masks on.  I'm disappointed to read that you won't be attending the Nationals because I always enjoy reading your reviews and I don't think they televise it in Canada.  I do, however, completely understand why your interest has waned and it would be difficult to attend expecting to see Dai on the ice as in so many previous years.

Oh let's talk you are to funny, 2 Dai's with masks. lol

Thank you for the video links and info about the attendance at the arena.
I am thinking since Dai-chan and Mao were not there some fans stayed away.

I hope that Sotinkova's injury is healed soon so she can be at her Nationals

Hi guys. Thanks to let's talk for links to programs and thanks to you all for sharing your comments.

Me too noticed many empty seats in the arena - missed all Dai's boards and banners - the big green/white one Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

Dice Murakami was a great surprise for me. The less considered amon TJ in the last years, due to injuries; I read that many criticized JSF for choosing him instaed of Tanaka or Hino. He skated with passion and commitment (with an eye to Dai-chan) and won against all odds. Kudos!!

Yes, he really admires senpai Dai-chan (even his hair-style Laughing ) and had warm and tender words when informed about Dai's retirement.

Sad because no Japan Ladies will attend GPF.... last time was back in 2000.

Very happy for Satoko's bronze medal - her first GP season and two medals. cheers cheers

Hi Pattina.  I, too, felt that Daisuke M was a nice surprise and a hidden gem.  Thanks also for commenting about the banners that were missing.  I thought of that when I watched the Medals Ceremony and saw the "Dice" banner for Daisuke M.  I was happy that he had a banner but was struck by the memory of so many banners that used to be there for Dai.

Although Dai is obviously greatly missed by so many I am very grateful that he is still very much in the news these days attending various events and appearing on TV.
