I am just catching up with all the updates. I have been busy with the holiday (thank you Twind for
your well wishes) and things are getting back to normal for me. I have a lot to digest here.
Clean shaven Dai looks so much better!

Thanks to everyone!

BTW I heard that Dai and Mao were spotted at Chukyo Univ. rink (Mao's practice rink) rehearsing a duet
for the XOI show with Kenji doing the choreography. I hope Akiko won't be jealous. lol

Thanks for the latest links everyone.  I thought of yet another career option for Dai.  He could be an artist.  His work would definitely sell and can't you just imagine the attendance if his paintings were shown in a gallery?  They could also use his artwork as graphics on t-shirts.

I hope there is truth to the rumour about Dai and Mao skating together.  It will be a wonderful sight to see.

I have also read about Dai and Mao. Let's hope.

Thanks to DTRtS and ostile for following info, links and translations:  cheers

[[As a regional treasure discovery variety program, we will continue to discover the charm of Okayama Kagawa.
We will welcome in our studio the Vancouver Olympic men's figure skating bronze medalist Daisuke Takahashi-san!]]

[[ Ahtlete Daisuke Takahashi, who through his achievements, has allowed the Rinkai Sports Center to survive, has recently retired.

Although it is very unfortunate, we will continue to support your success more and more in the future.]]

- Excerpts from the PUMA event's Q&A on Friday 28th.
Thanks to translator
.................
Q: Were there any sports except figure skating that you wanted to try?
Dai: Gymnastics. I like to see the rhythmic gymnastics and dive, too. I love to see the beauty of the technique.

Q: Have you ever felt satisfied with your performance?
Dai: No. (the audience reacts "what??")
Marty (rock guitarist): I understand him well. It's the same for the musician. When one feels satisfied, it's over.
We feel something is missing every time.

About the music for the program:
Dai: There are various music for the skate. Music that involves the audience and sustains the skater, and music for the solitude in his own world.
I'm also interested in rock music, but I'm afraid that I won't be able to keep up with this strong music and sounds if I don't have enough energy. I don't want to drop behind the music.

Marty: I really love to watch figure skating and I'm so excited to be here with Daisuke.
In my opinion, the fusion of music and sport is something higher than music alone. It's something in higher dimension.

Q: How can you be so strong?
Dai: I'm not strong, I'm rather weak I think. But I was lucky to have people around me who watched over me like "Well OK, let's just wait and see".

Q: I heard you like reading. Do you have any book to recommend?
Dai: Actually I don't read much recently (laugh), so I don't have any.
Originally I began reading because my coach recommended it to me for the vocabulary building, saying "you have a limited vocabulary".

Q: Any message for the youngsters?
Dai: Well, prediction is important but I'd recommend to try anything without thinking too much. If you fail, you can study a lot from that failure.
I forget easily what people said to me, but what remains in me is "You don't die from that" (it's not the end of the world).

Hi all!  Very Happy  Very Happy
Sorry for being away from DTFF these days.  silent

Congratulations to Dice (Daisuke Murakami) on your victory in NHK! cheers

As Shyla wrote in NHK thread, yes, his Roxane SP is a tribute to Daisuke. (BTW, Shyla, did Kurt say so in TV broadcast??)

In a figure skating magazine featuring Japanese male skaters published last week,
Dice said he and Frank thought the original SP for this season didn’t work efficiently in competition and decided to change it after Tokyo regional competition. And he chose Roxane as he wanted to express his respect to Dai-chan in his own way.

The magazine started with introducing the heartfelt messages from various Japanese skaters and coaches (see below) on Dai-chan’s retirement.

I couldn’t read them without tears. They truly respect Dai-chan and absolutely well understand what he has achieved to Japanese male figure skating. Dai-chan's passion will be succeeded by these skateres.
And also all of them said Dai-chan was very kind to them, as well. (Yes, we all know he is such a sweet person! I love you )

The messages are from,
Coaches: Nagamitsu, Hayashi, Sasaki, Tamura
Skaters: Hanyu, Mura, Kozuka, Machida, Keiji Tanaka, Murakami, Yoji Tsuboi, Uno, Sota Yamamoto, Koshiro Shimada, Sena Miyake

I want to introduce one of them here. It’s written by Shoma Uno. You will see how deeply he respects and loves Dai-chan.

(Sorry for my poor translation. I hope you can understand it correctly. pale )

--------------------
<Message from Shoma Uno on Dai-chan's retirement.>

I’m one of the fans of Daisuke Takahashi-senshu.

I met him for the first time when I was in the third grade in elementary school and skated in my first gala. Takahashi-senshu kindly talked to me who was extremely nervous in the locker room. I said to him “I was moved by your performance of ‘The phantom of the opera’ in JN 2006. I watched it closely as I worked as a flower boy! I loved it very much. I watch it repeatedly!” Then he made me laugh, saying “You have to watch only that (JN’s) POTO, because that was good. Please don’t watch the others.”

Takahashi-senshu is always so kind. Every time we were in the same gala, he always talked to me to prevent me from being alone.

I had a chance to see his practice in Chukyo University in the time he came back from the injury. (before Vancouver) As if I were him, my heart beat so fast. I stared him with my heart racing before he took the ice. Then he started gliding silently and smoothly. It made me so happy. I watched him until the end of the practice.

Regarding Vancouver Olympics, I got so tensed up, more than when I skate, that I didn’t even remember it. After it was over, I watched the recoded video and recalled it. I was really tensed that much. But during his skate in Sochi, I just prayed “he can skate to the end safely” because I knew his injury.

Japanese National Championships was the only competition where I could skate with him. So I was always looking forward to it very much. I have practiced hard, thinking “I want to watch him more closely!” “I can’t get closer to him, unless I become a better skater!” It was like a dream to skate with him in the same stage called JN.
The warm-up of the JN last year was a gem among gems. I was proud that my dream to skate with him in the same group came true.

I wanted him to come back to competitions after taking rest. I had thought that I had to practice more and more in order to participate in the same competitions with him.

Still I haven’t been able to find any words on his retirement. Probably I will realize the fact when JN starts.
For me, Daisuke Takahashi is just the only one.

----------------------------

Now only 20 days are left before Christmas on Ice starts!! santa santa

Probably someone already wrote about Chris Hart who will sing in Christmas on Ice and his new Christmas album.

http://chris-hart.net/disco.php

What do you think, which song from it Dai-chan or he and Mao or he and Akko-chan will skate to?

Can't wait!!!! bounce bounce bounce

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bh9qHEulZ3A

Thank you to the video maker!!! santa flower santa

Hi Miyu.  Thank you so much for your latest translation and links.  I loved reading Shoma's words about his sweet memories of Dai.  It was so kind of Dai to talk to Shoma, at the galas, so he wouldn't be on his own.  His respect and adoration for Dai, over the years, is very touching and it certainly shows in his skating.

It was actually me who mentioned Kurt's comments during Daisuke M's NHK performance and no he did not comment on the SP being a tribute to Dai.

Miyu, so nice to read from you again!!!

Many thanks for all info and translations. Funny that Dai suggested Shoma not to watch other POTOs, as the one Dai skated at Worlds 2007 was superb - indeed it was the first Free, Dai gained one position and won first W Men Silver medal for Japan.

Here is POTO at JN 2006 with Nancy Kerrigan's commentary.
Great, powerful, artistic, emotional, amazingly young and beautiful drunken drunken drunken

Hi miyu! Very Happy  Great to hear from you! We miss you!!

Thank you so much for finding time to translate for us the message from Shoma!

It is important and great to hear from other skaters about their personal "road with Dai-chan".

Shoma message is so touching...
As was Dice's tribute.
It says a lot, what sort of man Dai-chan is, to inspire such words and devotion.

"For me, Daisuke Takahashi is just the only one."

Pattina, thanks for all updates and Dai's POTO.
But really, from all Dai's programs we're watching... - POTO?! As there was not enough POTO programs this season. Laughing

But of course Dai's Phantom is precious - so young, romantic and beautiful!

Hello miyu nice to hear from you and hope all is well with you.

Very sweet message from Shoma!  When Dai announced his retirement I remember
reading on another board a poster wrote one simple sentence "Dai is the most beloved figure skater world wide"
I thought to myself no truer words have ever been spoken.

miyu it was not me who talked about Kurt but dancergirl as explained in her above post. I read about Dice's tribute to Dai
in an American article somewhere.

Wonderful translation miyu! Thank you!

Thanks Pattina for sharing the translation from DTRtS and the video links!

Dancergirl and Shyla, sorry for my misunderstanding. I just rushed to read a few posts there and mixed them up. pale

Yes!

Dai-chan always picks up 2006 JN POTO as one of his best performances, and never 2007 W... Probably because of the quad with hand down. I love both of them, though.

ilica wrote:

I haven't finished read the magazine. But I found Dai-chan's name in the talk between Akio Sasaki and Kento Nakamura. I will translate it for you later.

So true...

Now in Japan Dai-chan's retirement has become the well-known fact.  A lot of magazines featured his retirement. TV introduced him as a professional skater. Those things forced me to realized the fact that he has already retired, it's been over... Sorry, I can't say well. Sad

Hi! Very Happy

I’d like to let you know one more story from the magazine. Utako-sensei revealed that it was she who persuaded him to withdraw from WC Tokyo considering his knee condition and his future and is still wondering if she did the right thing. I can easily imagine her feeling.

I’d like to support her decision. There was a possibility that he would have destroyed his knee if he had continued to practice for the WC. But we also knew the withdrawal was still a great regret for him, too. So sad… Probably to show her himself living a fulfilling life and enjoying what he does in future, is the only way to free her from the anxiety, I think.

One of the comments which impressed me deeply in the press conference of his retirement on 10/14, was from Utako-sensei. She said that he asked her to tell him the way how he could repay the various supports he got by then when he started working with her seriously. He was only thirteen years old (or fourteen) at that time. She answered to young Dai-chan that you could repay them by achieving good results in competitions. I think he has skated with the thought all the time since the age of thirteen. I hope he is free from the pressure now.

Tonight he is going to show up in TV "live" show in his home town Okayama. Tomorrow he will attend the ceremony of the re-opening event of in Healpia Kurashiki ice rink. Hope we can see a lot of Dai-chan!! cheers cheers

miyu, thank you so much for the stories about Utako-sensei. I had the feeling she was involved in Dai's decision; she was able to make him think about his health and future life after Worlds. Caring like the most tender and loving mother.

ilica, I know this season is packed with POTOs.  Very Happy   I posted it because it was so important both for Dai and Shoma. Dai was amazingly great!!

miyu, thanks for links to "good looking boy" - yessssssssssss  indeed  drunken

He looks happy and relaxed and for sure he will be happier at the opening of restored ice-rink in his home town Kurashiki. He will also receive a Special Award. Let's hope for tons of Dai-chan pics and videos  cheers

Thanks miyu and Pattina for the updates.

I am glad Dai listened to Utako. After Sochi he needed to stay off that knee and rest.
He practically killed himself training for Sochi in his condition to show his best performance
which in the eyes of so many, not just us Dai fans, but skating fans all over the world,
deemed to be simply the best. I wish he would believe that and not be so hard on himself.

As always he looks and sounds Dai-wonderful. I see he is growing back his facial hair. lol

OHK8 news report
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3aMwHPp2g4

Long report - with interview to Sasaki sensei and to Dai-chan sensei I love you Lucky kids!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujJRPDfyW-U

Dai looks great he smiles and laughs a lot (wrinkles.. drunken ) and to me he is much more at his ease and funny than in formal tv shows/interviews.

I know Dai told several times that he is not interested in coaching, anyway IMO it comes "naturally" to him. The way he looks carefully at kids and corrects poses and moves. He would be a great sensei for kids, teaching fundamentals for instance, because attention and care for those around him come out naturally from his heart.

BTW, I watched previous video with Dai skating a moment from La Strada already many times. This program is important because of the bronze medal at Vancouver, of course, but it has also a powerful meaning: the road Dai has walked from when he first skated in Kurashiki ice rink. And with La Strada I fell in love with Dai-chan.... wet eyes now....but not out of sadness... just too emotional... I love you I love you I love you I love you

Thanks for the latest links everyone.  Here is a link to an article about the NHK competition.  Under Daisuke M's review it mentions his tribute to Dai.  It's so nice to see his name in articles relating to current competitions.  I thought I'd post it in this thread because the Grand Prix Series isn't as active.

TV news on Takahito Mura and his GP Final featuring Taka and Dai-chan at Kurashiki Ice Rink.
Listen.... tv lady refers to Dai as "Senpai Takahashi Daisuke"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIXDxmisI_c

"Senpai" - well deserved title!!! Dai is the ruling model for generations of young skaters, not only in Japan. Hope that many will follow his path aiming to something more than just jumps, towards artistry and perfection.

Short CM on New Year's Eve special program featuring Daisuke, Mura, Machida and Tanaka  - December 31, 19:30-23:00 on Kurashiki Cable KOT.
