Not just any arms, head and torso movements, ilica, but those upper body moves that increase the risk of a fall, make keeping the balance difficult.
I gave some examples of those moves above -- they are from Daisuke's last year SP by D Wilson. Try to find similar moves in Daisuke's current SP.

Not the judges, the tech panel. There's 3 individuals on a tech panel, each does their share of counting and marking. They have a timeline on their monitors (so it's not like they need a stopwatch for every little thing), and they watch and re-watch program that is broken into elements. Besides, tech panel members visit official practices, where they, too, can estimate the elements and possible levels.
Oh, really, considering how much they have to watch... Laughing It remided me the stuff that Shekhovtsova said today about 90 degrees distance between partners on some dance lifts. They examine those 90 degree how exactly? Rolling Eyes Please. Btw, they are all ISU judges, just have different titles depending on the duty, either Technical controller or Judge, etc.

For me the whole first part of Dai's SP steps is balancing on the verge of a fall. The whole sequence up to the part when he comes close to the audience is brilliant. I hope they won't change anything here. But I see the place for improvement in the last 1/3. They can add some freakish moves, if that's a requirement.

Maybe Dai's step is just to fast for them to see what he is doing properly. Maybe he should
slow down (like the other skaters). It is just hard for me to understand that one of the
best step skaters IMO competiting today has been getting Level 3. Dai did say in the interview
that let's talk translated (thank you for that) that Morozov made some changes to his step.
He has been getting +3 GOE on his step pretty consistently across the board.
Well I am glad that Dai is aware of it.

Thank ilica for the beautiful photos! Very Happy

I think the problem with step levels started this season because of the abolishment of the one leg requirement. It was easy for the judges to see if somebody stayed on one foot for 1/3 of the pattern. The "visible use for a..." wasn't scrutinized. Now, when they have to check everybody for the "visible use for a..." (which is easy when you deal with "In The Garden Of Souls" but otherwise Suspect ) we have the results that ladies like Asada, Wagner, Suzuki do levels4 steps while Chan and Takahashi level3.
Another bummer in the CoP system.

lol!
By the way, is the speed of the steps mentioned in the rules?

Yeah, page 10 of the same document:

Good speed should be reflected in GOE.

Daisuke, don't you ever change. Razz

Thank you for the info! I'm shocked with Liza's WD. Crying or Very sad

hsuhs, belated thanks to you for the link to learn step. I've started to study it.
It's not my first attempt, to try to decode all this on some similar site, where I DID learn something but so much still left unlearned.

Now I'm trying once again fighting with dizziness with, Counter? Rocker? What!? What!? clown alien What a Face
....I absolutely admire you to call all these 'a piece of cake'. But applying what you said about Kozuka, even a fan gets to be encouraged to depart from their comfort zone. Wink Not giving up yet... Razz

fosse, I understand the info about Liza's WD is spread by miss Flade. It's probably 100% correct. Liza skated a strong short, here's her scores:
http://fsrussia.ru/upl/results/1213/rusnat2013/SEG006.HTM

She's still on the FS list.
http://fsrussia.ru/upl/results/1213/rusnat2013/SEG007.HTM

She missed the morning practice, isn't feeling well. Most probably she won't take the ice in ladies free.

Twind, I was joking about all that being a piece of cake for me Laughing Embarassed It's a huge challenge for me, because I've never skated those steps myself. I try to repeat many moves on the floor to understand how they work, but it's not the same. I can't tell a difference between a counter and a rocker in real time (as a skater executes them in a StSeq), I need to watch them multiple times, and even then I can be totally wrong with my call. But I was hoping that together we can figure those things out.

I got especially interested in fs protocols, ISU communications and scores in 2008, IIRC. I even tried to analyze scores with a stats software a couple of times (and posted my findings on another fs forum). I found scoring abnormalities (anomalies) in some skaters scores. I constantly 'collect' scores, stare at those numbers trying to predict scoring trends. Things like that.

Naturally, when you're interested in scores, you also try to understand the scoring logic - the way the judges arrive at those numbers. And for that you need to understand stuff like 'feature', GOE, 'difficult variation', 'counter', 'rocker' and a million other things. I do my best, but I'm nowhere near being an expert. I'm not sure I'm on an 'advanced' level yet.

I used to be a fan of Takahiko's skating. I want to start loving his skating again, I really do. Just wish he helped me to.

That is sad news about Liza. I watched her SP video yesterday and she was just
great. Beautiful jumps, great footwork and transitions and she did it all with
such flair, I loved it. Fingers crossed that she will feel better and skate her FS.
Missing morning practice does not sound good though.

Thanks for the update on Liza hsuhs.

Shyla, there were so many controversial report reg Liza's participation in FS, it's unbelievable. But she did skate today, and wasn't bad either. She's in 1st for now, with only Sotnikova to skate.

Update: Elizaveta Tuktamysheva is Russia's new ladies National Champ cheers

Twind, are you going to try to add subtitles to the documentary? I know it's a lot of work, but it looks very interesting, and it would be great to know what they say. Only if you have time, of course Embarassed

ostile17 and ilica,

Thank you for your asking me. Yes, this is another nice video Daisuke fans would enjoy. I love you

I confess. I started it and I had stopped for a while overwhelmed with work, Christmas tasks and a stomach flu. I also had an impulse purchase of SOI tickets (with a mandatory trip to Japan, right?) now I have to be EXTRA nice to my family who already diagnosed me as getting Takahashiitis stage IV, and take extra overtime hours to cover the gigantic expense. (Sorry. Too much info! tongue ) I promise I'll finish. Please don't give up hope and give me some time, will you?

And ilica, with chores to do or not, you are always welcome to Hawaii!! bounce sunny

Twind, sorry to hear about your stomach flu: everybody seems to be getting it over here too.

I was somehow sure you were already doing it, that's why I dared asking! Embarassed
But please, do take all the extra time you need, doesn't matter if it takes months... I love you
It's mandatory that you take good care of your family and try to convince them you're not suffering such an advanced stage of Daisukitiis. Wink

If there is anyway I can help with the translation (beta reading, or anything that doesn't involve the actual translating from Japanese) please do not hesitate and ask.

And of course, if you ever come to Italy, you're always welcome! Smile

Thank you, Twind! I love you Don't worry about us (spoiled, by you, monsters) take your time, and take care of yourself. Sorry to hear about the stomach flu, nasty thing pale .
The Takahashiitis stage IV is also very dangerous, you must be very careful.
But you're going to SOI! cheers It's very important step in curing Takahashiitis, a little bit risky, but unavoidable. Your family needs to understand Twisted Evil

Look out, one day I'll knock at your doors! Wink I'm sure you'll recognize me by the romantic-crazy expression of my eyes that says DAISUKE I love you drunken Very Happy
