The ladies short program had a very interesting end. Carolina Kostner is in 7th after falling twice in her short program. Joannie Rochette is in the lead with over 64 points (about 5 points lower than Yu-Na Kim's skate America score). Fumie Suguri had a great skate and is in second with almost 58 points! Smile Caroline Zhang is third with a little more than 53 points.

In pairs, Kawaguchi and Smirnov are in the lead with McLaughlin and Brubaker in second and Dube and Davison in third. All three teams scored over 60 and it's very close between second and third. M/B scored about 3 points higher than they did at Skate America.

CD:
1. Davis and White (USA)
2. Pechalat and Bourzat (FRA)
3. Navarro and Bommentre (USA)
4. Crone and Poirier (CAN)
5. Gorshkova and Butikov (RUS)
6. Wester and Barantsev (USA)
7. Brobova and Soloviev (RUS)
8. Chong and Gfeller (CAN)

It's very close between the top 2. Only 0.39 separates them. Virtue and Moir's withdrawal has turned this into a very interesting competition.

Men's Short:
1. Yannick Ponsero (FRA)
2. Patrick CHAN (CAN)
3. Ryan BRADLEY (USA)
4. Evan LYSACEK (USA)
5. Sergei VORONOV (RUS)
6. Brandon MROZ (USA)
7. Shawn SAWYER (CAN)
8. Anton KOVALEVSKI (UKR)
9. Yasuharu NANRI (JPN)
10. Vladimir USPENSKI (RUS)
11. Jeremy TEN (CAN)

Like the ladies, this had a bit of an unexpected ending. Yannick was definitely the best of the night! Evan had a 3 turn in his combination (which was a triple-triple and not a quad triple). He's got some ground to make up if he wants to make the Final. Yannick is not very consistent but I hope he skates well in the long program.

I was amazed Fumie's result! Shocked Good for her! Is she coming back???? Shocked

You're welcome, miyu! I love Yannick's short program too! I love you It's probably my favorite so far this season (although I don't count Daisuke's because he hasn't competed yet) with Takahiko's in a close second. He won the short last year at SC too but he came apart in the long. Hopefully this season, he'll be able to hold it together.

Evan's Grand Prix Final is in serious jeopardy right now! He has to win to guarantee himself a spot and place second in order to be on the bubble. If he's third or lower, it won't happen.

Oh my Gackt! (c)
Evan!
Yes, I understand that the situation may change like at SC 2007 with Stephane Lambiel but anyway... It's a bit of surprise to see Lysacek lower than Bradley.

Standings after OD:
1. Davis and White
2. Pechalat and Bourzat
3. Navarro and Bommentre
4. Gorshkova and Butikov
5. Crone and Poirier
6. Bobrova and Soloviev
7. Wester and Barantsev
8. Chong and Gfeffer

Gold is pretty much wrapped up. Pechalat and Bourzat had a fall and only finished 6th in the OD. They are over 9 points behind which can't really be made up in ice dancing. They'll have to fight to keep silver because Navarro and Bommentre are less than a point behind them.

Pairs Final Results:
1. Kawaguchi and Smirnov
2. Dube and Davison
3. McLaughlin and Brubaker
4. Brodeur and Mattatal
5. Vise and Trent
6. Kirkland and Radford
7. Evora and Ladwig
8. Dong and Wu

Kawaguchi and Smirnov placed second in the long program and they needed almost all of their five point cushion to stay ahead. McLaughlin and Brubaker had a rough long program and scored much lower than they did at SA. Keauna and Yuko had a collision in warm up and so that might have rattled both teams. Dube and Davison won the long program with a great skate to Carmen. I didn't enjoy it all that much. I preferred Yuko and Alexander's program which was very cute.

Side note: I've seen yukisnowflake about a dozen times already giving stuffed toys to the skaters. She seems really sweet! I like that she comforted Dong and Wu a bit after their disappointing skate. Both of them (especially Huibo) looked absolutely devastated and in need of a hug (which yukisnowflake provided.

Men's Final Results:
1. Patrick Chan
2. Ryan Bradley
3. Evan Lysacek
4. Yannick Ponsero
5. Shawn Sawyer
6. Sergei Voronov
7. Brandon Mroz
8. Yasuharu Nanri
9. Anton Kovaleski
10. Jeremy Ten
11. Vladamir Uspenski

The skating was subpar except for Shawn Sawyer and Ryan Bradley who placed first and second in the long program respectively. Shawn Sawyer was definitely the skater of the night! Evan managed to pull up to bronze but it's not enough to make the Grand Prix Final. He likely got a few downgrades and his footwork was probably still a level 2.

Congrats to the top 3! And special congrats go to Shawn Sawyer for skating such a fabulous long program!

Ladies Final Results:
1. Joannie Rochette
2. Fumie Suguri
3. Alissa Cziny
4. Carolina Kostner
5. Caroline Zhang
6. Bebe Liang
7. Cynthia Phaneuf
8. Jenna McCorkell
9. Nana Takeda
10. Jenni Vahamaa
11. Elena Glebova
12. Myriane Samson

It started off as a splat fest but it turned around in the final group. Alissa Cziny skated beautifully, landing all her jumps although some were shaky. Joannie Rochette had a very strong performance...one that scored higher than Yu-Na's SA winning long program. Joannie might be a challenger to the Mao-Yu-Na rivalry.

Congrats to the top 3! cheers

What a big surprise Skate Canada!
I'm happy for Patrick Chan but really worried about Evan Lysacek... now it could be very difficult for him to reach to final!
Congratulations to Bradley and also to Fumie Suguri! I didn't expect at all their results!

Dance Final Results:
1. Davis and White
2. Crone and Poirier
3. Pechalat and Bourzat
4. Gorshkova and Butikov
5. Navarro and Bommentre
6. Bobrova and Soloviev
7. Wester and Barantsev
8. Chong and Gfeller

I didn't care for most of the free dances here. The only one I really liked was Davis and White's. Navarro and Bommentre's was good as well. The scores were much lower than the ones at SA.

Congrats to all the medalists! Special congrats to Davis and White for their first Grand Prix gold! cheers cheers

Thanks swandie for your Sk. Can. updates.

Thanks for noting & posting about seeing me & the stuffed toys I gave to the skaters & your kind remarks.

As for Dong & Wu I didn't find out til after their skate & the Prs. event was over that they had a terrible fall in their morning practise that day.
One of the rink ushers told me. The usher also told me the paramedics were very concerned about them.
I have not seen any video clips of their fall or news write up yet.
I'm glad they were able to skate & came to the boards to get the gifts I gave them.
Sidenote: Yiming Wu gave me a Chinese skating pin (which I had on my sweater) back in 2005 at Jr. Worlds when he was paired with Ni An.

Thanks swandie & gorydave for the Sk. Can. updates & comments.

Yes I had a great time at Sk. Can. & especially giving the stuffed toys to the skaters.

At practises I gave skaters a city pin of my city(London Can.); Can. postcards; Can. keychains & our new Can. 'Lucky Loonie' dollar coin.
